Homework Expectations

The purpose of homework is to reinforce learning in the classroom as well as give pupils the opportunity to continue to develop as independent learners. Homework is set weekly as set out below. It is based on what the pupils have learnt in school. These homework expectations apply to pupils in our bilingual stream during an English focus week.  

Reception
  • Reading – pupils will be set a reading and comprehension task which will be checked on their guided reading day
  • Independent reading  - 10-15 minutes of reading a book which will be given by their teacher, (reading or being read to) and acknowledged in reading record
  • Spellings – weekly spellings which can be found in their reading records
Year 1
  • Reading – pupils will be set a reading and comprehension task which will be checked on their guided reading day
  • Independent reading – 15-20 minutes of reading a book which will be given by their teacher, (reading or being read to) and acknowledged in reading record
  • Spellings – daily practice of words to learn in reading records and checked in their dictation each Friday
  • Maths – pupils will be set an activity based on number bonds to 10 and 20 to be practised three times a week in their maths homework book and Mathletics activity set by class teacher on Friday to be checked the following Friday
Year 2
  • Reading – pupils will be set a reading and comprehension task which will be checked on their guided reading day
  • Independent reading – 15-20 minutes of reading a book which will be chosen with their teacher and acknowledged in reading record
  • Spellings – daily practice of words to learn in reading records and checked in their dictation each Friday
  • Maths – pupils will be set an activity based on their time tables to be practised three times a week in maths homework book and Mathletics activity set by class teacher on Friday to be checked the following Friday
Year 3
