Belleville Wix Academy

Our Governance

Our Local Governing Body

Belleville Wix Academy opened in August 2017 as part of the Quality First Education (Q1E) Trust. There is a Board of Trustees which oversees all of the schools in the Trust.

In January 2018 we established a Local Governing Body (LGB) for Belleville Wix Academy, to whom the Trustees will delegate certain roles and powers.

The LGB includes local staff governors (elected by the school staff), local parent governors (elected by the school's parent body) and co-opted local governors (appointed by the local governing body and/or the Trustees, because they have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school).

The headteacher also sits on the local governing body.
We currently have one vacancy for an additional co-opted local governor and hope to make an appointment shortly.

Governance is both rewarding and challenging, and I am passionate about the capacity of governance to support Bellleville Wix on its school improvement journey. To help me get to know the children and staff at our school  I have been coming in to help with reading every week which has been great fun.

I am an ex teacher now working in outreach projects in the School of Geography at Queen Mary University.   I have lived in the Clapham area for 30 years and my three children attended Wandsworth schools.

I was a governor at Belleville for many years and whilst chair of governors there was designated a National Leader of Governance which gave me the opportunity to support a wide variety of schools.

I am also a governor at Penwortham School in Tooting and I am a board member of the Q1E trust.

Co -opted

I have been co-opted to the Belleville Wix Local Governing Body in 2017.  We moved very close to the school in 2014 and, with 2 pre-school age children, the school's success is close to my heart.  I believe every child has the right to a high quality education and that good education is the key to a more tolerant and equal society.  As someone who benefitted from a fantastic state school education, I would like to give back and help other children to have the same opportunity.

I work full time running a global business in the Energy Sector and believe that there are many transferable skills between public and private spheres.  I bring a passion for education, a belief in community and a wealth of business skills to the role and look forward to serving the school as best I can.

Wix, in some form or other has been my home for the past 5 years.

For the first 14 years of my career I was a writer in advertising including a senior writer for  Saatchi and Saatchi and a director of  TV commercials. Then I gave it all up for the best job anyone can have – looking after my children for 15 years, the first three in San Francisco – which also gave me a perspective of other education systems.

When my children went to secondary schools my wife told me staying at home and eating bon bons was not an option so I became a cycle training instructor working in schools all over South London (including the Alton). I must have done something right because I was then chosen to become a trainer of trainers.

This planted a kernel in my mind about my fourth career and so after a PGCE at the Institute of Education I became an LSA at WIx supporting a young undiagnosed ASD child. When that child graduated I too graduated to becoming a TA in Year 3 and then a class teacher. As a result of this wide experience I developed a perspective that I carry to this day and it just so happens to be paraphrase one of Mr Grove’s’s favourite quotes; that the quality of a school is only as good as the quality of the staff.

Being a parent is the best job in the world and parents rely on schools to look after the most important people in their lives. Though my daughter was diagnosed with an SEN at age 8, she is now about to finish her final year in University. This says a lot about how I believe all schools should embrace the ethos of “Every Child Matters.”

I have been working as part of the Wix team since 2013, initially as a Learning Support Assistant, and after completing a PGCE course at Kingston University, I am now a class teacher. Previously, I worked as a radio producer at Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra, as well as teaching English as a second language in South Korea for five years.

Having witnessed the changes that our school has gone through over the last five years, I volunteered to represent the staff on the board of governors because I am passionate about our school and the direction it takes going forward. I am proud to be part of the fantastic team at Wix and I feel strongly that we now have the systems and support framework in place to help us to become one of the premier Primary schools in our area.

Elected parent governor
Link governor for behavior

I was elected as a local parent governor at Bellville Wix Academy in 2017. My family has been a part of this school community since 2015, when my oldest child began in the reception class. In the coming school year all three of my children will attend Bellville Wix Academy, so I am extremely invested in seeing our school reach its full potential. I am currently a stay at home mother, having previously worked in marketing and project management on Wall Street in the US before our family moved to London. I am adept at listening to others to interpret a vision, and then mobilizing the resources and key individuals needed to produce something that is meaningful and tangible. I am honored to be on the first governing body since we have become part of the Quality First Education Trust. I wanted to be a school governor because I understand the importance of parent involvement and holding the leadership team accountable to reach their goals of transforming our school into one that is outstanding. From the start, I have felt that our school is very special, diverse, rich in culture and a true community. Since joining the academy I can already see the start of many great things to come. I am committed to putting my skills and enthusiasm to work to help make Bellville Wix Academy the best place that it can be for our children.
